Rachel Beach
"The pleasure of experiencing Beach's work lies in the in-person visual decoding," Art in America Magazine wrote about Rachel Beach's unique sculptures. Originally coming from Waterloo ON, Canada, Rachel Beach is an artist who has been living and successfully working in New York City for many years now. Her sculptures are made of painted wood and aluminum - yellow is a frequently used color - and combine minimalist and formal approaches with different archeological and architectural influences. In her work she typically plays with illusion and reality as well as flatness and volume.
"When I make sculptures I think very much about what it feels like to stand next to them and move past or around them," Rachel Beach explains. After receiving an MFA from Yale University, she earned several significant awards and grants, such as the Socrates Sculpture Park Fellowship, a Residency at the Lower East Side Printshop and a Canada Council for the Arts Grant. Rachel Beach's work got reviews in The New York Times, Art in America and Interview Magazine and exhibitions at Blackston, Lennon Weinberg and Mixed Greens in New York.
